Mastercard Max is a new AI assistant for finding and understanding benefits attached to a payment card. Mastercard announced it on October 21, 2026, with an initial launch through C6 Bank in Brazil rather than a separate app available to every Mastercard holder.
Access comes through your bank
The announcement names SNB Group, Nedbank, I&M Bank and Attijariwafa Bank as working to offer the assistant. Citi is exploring opportunities in Singapore and Hong Kong. Those stages should not be read as confirmation that every named bank’s customers can use Max today.
Mastercard says issuers can embed Max in their own digital channels. A cardholder can ask about existing benefits in ordinary language; the response can take account of the card, eligibility and context. Travel is one example: the assistant might explain lounge access or highlight eligible experiences.
Help finding a benefit is only the first step
The practical question for a cardholder is whether their own bank has enabled the feature for their specific card. A network-wide product announcement does not answer that account-level question.
Before relying on a recommendation, ask for the benefit’s terms and check the details that affect your purchase: the qualifying card, booking route, registration requirement and any exclusions. Keep those terms with the booking confirmation. This is a sensible verification step for an AI summary, rather than evidence that a particular Max answer is wrong.
Benefits assistance has a different job from checkout
Mastercard’s product page describes an issuer-integrated benefits experience, with SDK, agent-to-agent and web-hosted deployment options. Its stated purpose is to make existing benefits easier to use.
That leaves a useful distinction for shoppers: discovering lounge access or an offer does not by itself authorize an AI agent to buy a flight. Our agentic payments guides cover that separate purchasing workflow.
