ChatGPT Finances is now rolling out to free users in the U.S. OpenAI said on October 2, 2026 that Finances in ChatGPT is coming to Free and Go users on the web, iOS and Android, so you no longer need a Plus or Pro plan to connect bank, card and investment accounts and your Experian credit report to ChatGPT (OpenAI release notes).
What changed on October 2
OpenAI’s release note says Finances “is rolling out to Free and Go users in the U.S. on web, iOS, and Android.” OpenAI’s help article now lists Finances as available in the U.S. to Free, Go, Plus and Pro users (OpenAI Help Center). It is still U.S.-only, and “rolling out” means it may reach your account later than others.
What Finances can see and do
There are two separate connections, and you can use either or both (OpenAI Help Center):
- Bank, card and investment accounts through Plaid. ChatGPT syncs and categorizes the data, then shows a dashboard with spending by category, upcoming payments, subscriptions, bills, net worth, portfolio distribution and daily changes in stock and ETF holdings.
- Your credit report through Experian. You verify your identity in Experian’s form, and ChatGPT shows your VantageScore 3.0 score and Experian report. OpenAI says checking your score this way is a soft inquiry that does not affect your score, and that the score and report update monthly.
ChatGPT can explain and plan, but it cannot act on your accounts. OpenAI lists that it cannot move money, pay bills, change account settings, make trades, change retirement contributions, open or close accounts or file taxes. It also says ChatGPT is not a fiduciary, registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, tax preparer or law firm, and that its answers are for informational and planning purposes only.
How to remove your data
OpenAI describes three things you can delete, and they are separate (OpenAI Help Center):
- Bank connections. Disconnect in Settings > Apps > Finances or from the Finances home page. OpenAI says synced account data is deleted from its systems within 30 days, and data tied to that ChatGPT connection is deleted from Plaid within 30 days under Plaid’s policies. Other apps you linked through Plaid are not affected; you manage those in Plaid Portal.
- The Experian connection. You can disconnect it without removing bank connections, and OpenAI says it deletes the underlying credit report data within 30 days.
- Conversations and financial memories. Disconnecting does not delete what is already in your chat history or the “financial memories” ChatGPT saved, such as a savings goal you mentioned. You delete conversations separately, and memories from the Finances page through the three-dot menu.
Finance conversations follow the same model-training setting as the rest of ChatGPT, which you change in Settings > Data controls. In a temporary chat, ChatGPT does not access your connected accounts.
What it means for you
Until now, connecting a bank to ChatGPT was a paid feature. Now anyone on the free plan in the U.S. can link accounts, so it is worth deciding what you share before you click Get started. You can connect one account rather than all of them, and you can use the credit score without linking any bank.
Treat the dashboard as a starting point, not a statement. OpenAI notes that transfers, card payments or duplicate pending transactions can make a spending breakdown look wrong, and that credit widgets show the last balance your lender reported, not live activity. For decisions with tax, legal or investment consequences, OpenAI itself says to consult a qualified professional.
